I coach a u10s rugby league team i have 1 or 2 lads that don't like tackling which drills are best to get the best out of them.
In a previous post someone said to try getting them to play Brittish Bulldog. (Bullrush) I train U10's too and am trying it tomorrow night. Hopefully it works.
cheers will give it a go
It's important to get technique right first. Try getting the tackler to tackle by first starting on his knees. Get another boy to run at him and he makes the tackle , head up, gripping his hands around the attacking boys legs then rolling with the momentum with his head beside the attackers hips / thighs in the correct position. Once this is mastered move to one knee , then move to being on both feet. Boys need to realize it doesn't hurt making a tackle and good technique will help prove this to them. Only then will they develop enough courage to try to tackle And tackle correctly.
Cheers Gary Tried it out at training tonight went well with the two lads that dont like tackling.
Try tackle tunnel. Set up a 1m wide grid with equal cones either side, players stand on a cone, coach calls out two names, one runner one tackler, they both run to opposite ends of the grid, pass the ball to the attacker and they run at each other down the grid. Sounds Brutal but the kids love it!
